Propagating Pinguicula through leaf cuttings
The easiest method for propagating butterworts is propagating Pinguicula through leaf cuttings. The process starts by carefully detaching a leaf, which is then placed on the soil surface. The leaf is neither buried nor inserted into the substrate.
Choose leaves that are fully green and not yet degrading. Handle them gently to avoid damage during the process.
The substrate should be kept consistently moist.
To maintain the leaves, it’s beneficial to provide higher air humidity. This can be achieved by using an aquarium or placing a plastic bag over the pot and securing it with a rubber band. However, in my experience, many butterworts propagated this way have done well without extra humidity, so it’s not essential for less demanding species.
It’s ideal to ensure plenty of diffused light. Be cautious about overheating the plants, especially when they’re placed inside a plastic bag.
